OPAL MINING SEASON 2025 IS ALMOST HERE!

To those opal enthusiasts out there, have fun finding opals!

Opals are sometimes tricky to recorganize once they are embeded in clay and covered in clay, but when they are uncovered as shown in the picture below they are distinguishable, you will see our eyes got used to that after a while.

Opal in the tailing

Naturally shaped hail pearls forms of opals or as we call it opal seeds. In view of the fact sometimes we found it also little bit flatter as shown in the picture below.

One of those moments when I feel like, I ‘m the luckiest tailings digger of the day even though I didn’t have a clue yet if they were all precious or maybe just one of it.

Below is one of the “easiest” way to recognize that this was an opal and a precious one. I was lucky, I saw the broke end first as shown in the picture. If it was the other way around probably it would have been harder to recognize especially if you were newbies.

check out our older news below for some more information or feel free to check out other news we have. In other news we mentioned that we usually have some of our opals and jewelries at our Mine Shop, however we didn’t make it last season, neither this season. Unfortunately we didn’t know definitely if we ever going back to the mine. Nevertheless we were fortunate having the opportunity to experience mining opals by ourselves.

Furthermore below are some opal chips that are usually found in the tailing and if you feel like that Virgin Valley is out of your reach, you could still purchase some Opals from our shop 😊

Nevertheless, there were folks that got very lucky with fee digging at our public Tailing area, you never know, perhaps you are as lucky as this guy that got away with a big chunk. At that time For $75,- fee dig that was a steal.

Apart from that mining is literally hard and dusty work, needs patience and certainly lots of luck.

Above is big Pufffball (a ball of volcanic ash), indicates Woodopals underneath or around the Puffball. After all, straight 3 months of hard work and depressingly no luck. I guess that was a proof of passion. Practiced my patience on a commen Jet black Opal. Owing to the fact that when you are in Luck and find a precious Opal, you need to be very patient in order to get it out intact, in one piece if possible.

As the saying goes

There is Always somthing More to Learn even For A Master

As shown below in the video, a long piece of woodopal that needs to be dug out patiently.
