This month in our workshop is something truly special emerged, a striking piece of Woodopal that’s been millions of years in the making. The journey began with a raw unassuming log shape fossil. Its outer surface still carrying the textures from ancient bark and stone. After carefully cleaning, the first hints of vibrant colors began to peek through, flashes of green, blue, fiery red, whispering of the treasures hidden inside
Though hours of meticulous hand-polishing each segment of this ancient wood revealed each onw personality:
- Brilliant play-of-colors with shimmering blues, greens, yellows, pinks, red and golds.
- Unique patterns where the original wood grain meets opal’s iridescent sheen.
- Natural knots that tell the story of a tree that once stood tall, now reborn as gemstone.
Opalized wood is a rare geological wonder, formed when silica-rich water replaced the organic wood fibers over millions of years. What Remains is not only a fossil but also a gemstone. ~Part history Part art~
